Yves Leterme was born in 1960 in Werviku in the province of West Flanders. His father was a French-speaking Walloon and Dutch-speaking mother Flamandką. From 1973-1979 he attended high school in Sint-Vincentiuscollege Ypres. In 1981 he earned a bachelor of law at the Catholic University of Leuven, and in 1983 a BA in political science at the University of Ghent. In 1984 he graduated with a law degree and a year later, master's degree in public administration from the University of Ghent. In 1984 he won a diploma at the Centre international d'études du Federalism in Nice [1].
Professional and political activities for 2007 [edit]

At the beginning of the 80s engaged in political activities. In 1983 he became chairman of the youth of the Christian People's Party (CVP) in Ypres. In 1985 he was appointed deputy assistant secretary Paul Breyne'a and CVP in the district of Ypres. In 1986 he was adviser to Paul Deprez, Flemish minister in the government. In 1987 he joined the Belgian Court of Auditors, where he sat for two years. In the meantime, remained active member of the Christian Democratic youth  lose weight fast and the CVP. In December 1992 he became an administrator at the European Commission, where he worked for five years, until May 1997. In January 1995 he became the mandate of the councilor of Ypres, which has since continuously holds. In June 1997 he was member of the House of Representatives on behalf of the CVP. In the elections in June 1999 and June 2004 reached a re-election. From January  he was chairman of the party's parliamentary club of Christian Democrats and Flemish (CD & V, resulting from the transformation CVP) in the House of Representatives [1].

After losing the CD & V in the parliamentary elections in June 2003, De Clerck Stefaana replaced as chairman of the party. He led her through the year to July 2007, ie until won by CD & V local elections in lose weight fast, where he remained until June 26, 2007 [1].

In August 2006, Yves Leterme sparked some criticism, when in an interview with the French "Libération" accused the French-speaking inhabitants of Belgium, the lack of willingness and ability to learn the Dutch language. He also stated that only Belgians unite: the king, football team and beer [2].
